Building & Understanding
I build and have built a lot of software but it’s only now occurred to me
that I’ve been running on an assumption. My assumption, plainly, is that
I need to understand before I can begin building. I think now there’s
some wisdom in there but it’s not the entire reality of it.
More often than not I find myself re-reading my code and further
understand what it is that I’ve actually built, finding new ways to use
it or fix it. I can’t begin to build without understanding what I’m building
and yet my understanding is incomplete unless I have built it.
Fascinating.
I suppose I could safely say that stepping back and pondering about what
I’ve actually built is a vital part of the software development cycle.
Thank you for reading
so far. Once again, the contents of this
website is fictional. Take care.
